Only 29% of all projects have been successfully completed. Most of the project fail because of unskillfulness in the project management and adapting newer trends in the field of the project management by the project managers.

With the growing trends in the business practices and expectations the Project Management is evolving by putting emphasis on the people, process and technologies to successfully completing the project. It is expected that by 2020 about 1.57 million of project management related workplaces will be created. With almost every day there is changing trends in the field of project management, so it becomes imperative for Project Managers to adapt these new trends of the project management in order to increase the efficiency of project executions. Following are some of new trends in project management which the project managers to be abreast with:


1. Agile Project Management is here to stay
With the fast pace of change in the complex, competitive marketplace and operating under extreme uncertainty, companies large and small are engaging people throughout the business to adapt and respond to change faster with agile. So, to deal such a situation, it becomes apparent to adopt and stay with agile project management techniques and methodologies.


2. Multidisciplinary Skill Set:
In the current dynamic setup and competitive marketplace, it is expected that the project managers should be able to guide in strategic and business decision. So, PMs must have multidisciplinary skill set which includes effective communications, analytical thinking, strategic resourcefulness, a business mindset. 

3. Strategic Influence of the Project Manager:

As Companies want to be ahead of their competitors, there is a need for their project manages to be able to think strategically for reaching to solutions faster which will have direct impact on the business. This fast and efficient decision-making will ensure positive influence on the business workflow process of the company.

4. Design Thinker:

Design thinking process allows developing solutions using engineer and development practices and combining them with the elements borrowed from art, social science, and business. Project managers use it as a tool for developing project management content, determining the requirements and solving unusual.

5. Distributed Work Environment:

Most of the companies distribute their workload of among the team members stationed in geographically distributed offices, following are the key challenges:
1. Communication is the core issue among the distributed teams.
2. Different time zones and conflicting working hours impact communication and collaboration.
3. Cultural and language differences impact communication and collaboration.

Project managers should be equipped with effective tools for requirements repositories, SCM, management, build and deployment setup, defect tracking, and project management tools to be efficiently manage the projects in such a distributed system.
